Nepal broke several records during its opening match of the Asian Games against Mongolia. Nepal team scored 314 runs in just 120 balls. For the first time in international cricket, a team has scored more than 300 runs in a T20 match.

Nepal men’s team created history during the Asian Games group match against Mongolia on Wednesday. Nepal broke many records of T20 cricket in the opening match of men’s cricket in Hangzhou. After India won the gold medal in women’s cricket on Monday, a world record was set in the very first match of the men’s event. Nepal scored an incredible score of 314/3 in 20 overs and became the first team to cross the 300 mark in T20 cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had already confirmed that the Asian Games matches would be given international T20 status.

Additionally, Deepender Singh Airee broke Yuvraj Singh’s long-standing record for the fastest T20 half-century. Yuvraj scored a half-century in 12 balls against England during the 2007 World Cup. In the same innings, he hit six sixes in one over. Whereas, Deependra Singh Airi completed his half-century in just nine balls. He played an unbeaten inning of 52 runs in 10 balls, out of which 48 runs came from sixes.

Kushal Malla scored the fastest T20 century, leaving behind India captain Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s star batsman David Miller. He completed his century in only 34 balls. While Rohit and Miller scored centuries in 35 balls. Malla hit eight fours and 12 sixes and remained unbeaten after scoring 137 runs in just 50 balls.

Nepal had made a slow start to their innings at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou, with both the openers playing at a strike rate below 100. After this, Malla took the innings forward by making a partnership of 193 runs with captain Rohit Paudel (61 runs in 27 balls). After this, Deependra batted brilliantly in the end and broke the world record.


India will participate in the quarter finals The first round of the men’s competition at the Asian Games consists of three groups of three teams each. The top-ranked team from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, where teams like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan will join the tournament. India will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was recently part of the ODI squad for the series against Australia and played in the first two matches.
